Investing in listed companies is risky, but the reward can be large, as illustrated by the increase in the value of the Berkshire Hathaway share over the last 30 years.

Sure, there have been plenty of ups and downs since 1988, including two market crashes (2000-2003 and 2007-2009). But market crashes notwithstanding, the share increased from $3000 in January 1988 to $189000 in January 2016, and Waren Buffett is known as a conservative investor and CEO, not a day trader. Who needs a better performance?
